King's Business - 1967-09

If we really want to obey, if we want our lives to be effective, it will cost something. In fact, it will cost EVERYTHING. God may have to shake us to the very foundation. It always happens. Whenever God is about to make any crucial changes in us, He begins in our prayer life. Through His Word we find out what He wants us to do. As we pray, He does it! Determine to let your quiet time BE a quiet time. Use God’s Word as a sword against Satan. Begin this very moment by saying, “ I will pray NOW. I will wait on God NOW. I will let HIM plan for me.” So much depends on our attitude, and our attitude, when totally surren dered, depends on God! by Ruth Calkin MY CHILD SAID THAT? This month, instead of printing just one illustration of something a darling child said, I’d like to share a whole book with you. Helen W. Kooiman, mother of four, has written a delightful book entitled, PLEASE PRAY FOR THE CABBAGES, published by Revell. This delightful book is full of “ pint-sized parables for grown ups,” and even the title was in spired by a child. I On Page 91 is a parable called, “Just Call Me Job” and any moth er who has had a son with a paper route (as I have had this month) will utterly identify with this one. Some will make you laugh, some will make you cry, but all will I touch your heart. Thank you, dear Helen, for this lovely, yet practical work of God’s love! Hate to make lunches? Here are some tips. Make lunch-box sandwiches weekly instead of daily and freeze them. Pack age and freeze individual portions of cake, cookies and pies for packed lunches. Cupcakes pack better than pieces of cake, so when making a flat or layer cake, save out a couple of spoons of batter for cupcakes. Younger children love “ finger food.” Fill plastic bags with tiny cubes of cheese and luncheon meat and in an other bag, send a buttered (or peanut- buttered) piece of bread. (It all adds up to a sandwich, but its not too ob vious.) An older child can be given a chicken or meat sandwich with a separate bag of tomato slices and he can put them together at school, saving the bread from getting soggy. Once in awhile, slip a note into the lunch bag like: “ Your little ole lunch- maker mom loves you — but not if you forget to bring this bag home.” JUST FOR TODAY When Satan would defeat me With subtle fear and worry, I quote to him from God's own Word, And he's off— in a hurry!
