HELP US REACH THE FORGOTTEN MAN

Q. What special ministry can week day clubs have in the Total Church Program? A. A week-day club program adds a dimension to the Church’s program that is unique, in that it enables leaders to relate Christ to everyday life in an everyday setting. In Sun day school we seek to project our teaching outside the classroom by an ticipating life situations. But in the week-day club program, many of those life situations take place and the leader has the privilege of mak ing the spiritual application at the time of the greatest need. The ele ment of expression is probably a club’s primary emphasis, where it enables a boy or girl actively to be involved in the various activities; but even more important than this, the individual is encouraged to grow and achieve on his own so that the value of the ministry of week-day clubs is extended beyond that of the actual meeting time each week. Q. What does an organization such as Pioneer Girls set as its primary aims ? A. Pioneer Girls is a national or- agnization which assists the local church in its ministry to girls. They state their purposes as follows: 1. To win girls to a personal ac ceptance of Jesus Christ as Saviour. 2. To build spiritual maturity in the Christian girl through activities and experiences which help her to grow. 3. To train girls for effective Christian leadership and service. 4. To develop balanced Christ-cen tered personalities. Q. For what age is the program of Pioneer Girls geared ? A. Pioneer Girls divides their girls into three sections. The first is known as Pilgrims, and this includes girls in third through sixth grade,

ages 8 through 11. The next division is the Colonists, for girls in Junior High school, or ages 12, 13 and 14. Then there is a division for high school girls 15-18 known as the Ex plorer division. Q. I f a church has never had Pioneer Girls, with which division would one start? A. The national organization recom mends that a church start with the oldest division, high school Explor ers, and then work down as leader ship is available. Many churches re verse this procedure and start with the youngest girls first because lead ership is often easier to enlist for these age groups. But the principle of this policy is that by starting with the oldest girls, we are training fu ture leadership for the younger divi sions who really will know the pro gram because they themselves were a part of it. Secondly, by starting the older groups and moving down, a girl is assured of a club to move into as she grows older. M a n y churches never get any farther than the Pilgrim division and thus lose out on a ministry to girls in some of the most important and influen tial years of their lives. Q. How would a church go about starting such a club? A. First, send to Pioneer Girls at Box 788, Wheaton, Illinois for the materials. An instructional packet for each division is $1.50. Secondly, the church should appoint a Sponsor ing Committee, consisting of three or more women. These women ap point at least one guide for each age group they are starting. Chief Guides should be at least 20 years old. *Rev. Larson is Western Director of Scripture Press. This feature is heard weekly over KBBI, Los Angeles (107.5 FM). Other panel members are Rev.
