P8.10 Relational and Participatory Practices and Family Involvement in Local Early Intervention Teams in the Porto District Presenting Author: Cristiana Filipa Machado da Silva (Portugal) Affiliation: Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences of the University of Porto, Portugal Co-Authors: Tiago Ferreira, Catarina Grande This study examines the relationship between effective, family-centered practices and family involvement in Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) in the Porto district. Given the increasing number of children needing support and the work of local intervention teams, understanding this relationship is crucial, as family involvement is vital for successful intervention. Prior research highlights the importance of relational and participatory practices in enhancing family involvement. Aiming to characterize these effective practices from the perspectives of both families and professionals, evaluate their relationships, and assess their impact on family involvement, 113 families and 62 ECI professionals participated in the study. Families completed the Family-Centered Practices Scale and the Parental Involvement in Early Intervention Scale, while professionals completed the Family-Centered Practices Checklist. Findings indicate a positive correlation between relational and participatory practices. Regression analysis shows that these practices significantly influence family involvement, highlighting important implications for ECI professionals in their assessment and intervention processes. Co-Authors: Enrique Callejas, Almudena Calero, Luz Fernandez, Teresa Gonzalez de Rivera, Cristina Soto Promotion of skills and abilities in parental figures to contribute to the development and well-being of their sons and daughters in early childhood and to promote the quality of family life, from a rights-based, gender equality, and inclusion perspective. Specific objectives include promoting competencies in parental figures, the development of children, and family coexistence. The program follows a blended structure with modules containing structured content delivered through a Moodle platform, which includes both online and in-person interaction spaces. The presentation explores the development and impact of Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) services in Tajikistan, starting from a parents movement and currently led by Tajikistan Early Start Network. With 84% of children lacking access to preschool education and significant challenges faced by children with disabilities, the network’s initiatives focus on promoting the right to life and development through community education and evidence-based early intervention programs. Key efforts include comprehensive needs assessments, family-centered approaches, and capacity building for health workers. This presentation will also discuss the implementation of alternative ECD programs, the pivotal role of parent organizations, and the benefits of international collaborations. Ongoing advocacy aims to shift societal attitudes and enhance the competencies of specialists, ensuring sustainable support for children and families.
