p4.35 Feasibility and Acceptability of an Online Intervetion With Therapeutic Assistance for Parents of Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Case Study Presenting Author: María Angélica Chavarri García (Chile) Affiliation: Faculty of Psychology and Eduation Science, University of Porto Co-Authors: Ana Catarina Canario, Orlanda Cruz The Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) is a naturalistic developmental behavioral intervention (NDBI) with a new Spanish online resource. This study assessed the feasibility and acceptability of an online intervention using this ESDM-based online resource while doing group meetings. It evaluated satisfaction, engagement, use of strategies in mother-child interaction, and parents' perceptions of changes in their child. Five autistic children under 40 months and their mothers participated. Mother-child behaviors were analyzed before and after the program through video recordings, while satisfaction and personal perceptions were analyzed with online surveys and semi-structured interviews. All parents completed the program and reported high satisfaction with the content and meetings. They noted improvements in their use of naturalistic strategies and in engagement during interactions. Mothers felt more involved and observed positive changes in their children’s attention and communication. Online interventions can ease burdened healthcare systems, providing cost-effective family support. Further research is needed. p4.36 Inclusive Preference Assessments for Enhancing AAC Modality Selection Presenting Author: Juhi Kidwai (USA) Affiliation: Southern Illinois University-Carbondale Co-Authors: Lesley Shawler, Denise Croft, Karli Wright, Valerie Boyer Children with complex communication needs (CCN) often benefit from augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) to enhance symbolic and functional communication. Effective AAC interventions are interdisciplinary, dynamic, and multidimensional. Assessments incorporating client and caregiver input facilitate these qualities. However, novice clinicians may lack proficiency in interdisciplinary assessment that balances caregiver and child preferences. This study explores integrating interdisciplinary protocols via behavioral skills training (BST) and family-centered assessment to guide AAC selections. Graduate and undergraduate speech-language pathology and behavior analysis students will receive BST to implement AAC modalities and preference assessments. Using single-case, multi-element designs, clinicians will assess children with suspected ASD using high- and low-tech AAC modalities. Caregivers will complete surveys, be trained in AAC use, and evaluated on providing communication opportunities. Anticipated outcomes include clinicians achieving high fidelity, children showing proficiency and preference for AAC modalities, and caregiver preferences aligning with their child’s needs, fostering personalized communication success.
p4.37 Online Work of a Physical Therapist in Early Intervention Services During the War in Ukraine: Effectiveness and Prospects
Presenting Author: Oleksandra Khvorostenko (Ukraine) Affiliation: Charity Fund- Early intervention institute
The war in Ukraine has impacted the delivery of EI services. Thanks to technological advancements and the adaptability of professionals and given the inherent family-centered nature of early intervention, online services have emerged as a crucial tool for ensuring the continuity of care. Effectiveness of Online Services for Families: (1) Accessibility: Online sessions allow families to receive the necessary support remotely; (2) Continuity: Therapists can maintain regular contact with families, ensuring uninterrupted services even when families relocate; (3) Parental involvement: Parents are actively engaged in the process, learning effective strategies to promote their child's development within everyday routines and natural contexts; (4) Challenges: Transdisciplinary knowledge - Therapists must continually broaden their understanding of various developmental areas; (5) the limitations are that the lack of hands-on techniques can be challenging for PT’s. Online meetings in early intervention during the war offer both advantages and challenges. This format ensures continuity of care, expands access to services, and enhances intervention effectiveness. p4.38 Telepractice and Digital Transformation in Early Intervention: Opportunities and Challenges Presenting Author: Rómulo J. González García (Spain) Affiliation: Campus Capacitas. Universidad Católica de Valencia Co-Authors: Carlos Pérez Campos, Gabiel Martínez Rico Digital transformation has revolutionized the field of early intervention, offering new possibilities for delivering services through tele practice. This model enables specialized services to be provided remotely, overcoming geographical barriers and ensuring continuity in hard-to-reach or emergency contexts. Our study examines the benefits, limitations, and critical factors for implementing tele practice in early intervention, based on a literature review and case studies in diverse settings.
