Symposia Advancing Comprehensive Early Childhood Intervention S2.03 Listening and Learning: Family and Professional Perspectives on Early Intervention Rights Symposium Organizer: Maria Kastanis (USA) Affiliation : University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Procedural safeguards and rights are intended to provide protections for both families and programs. Although families are often given written copies of their protections, they may not have opportunities to discuss them with their team in meaningful ways that they can understand and apply to their journey in early intervention. Family rights discussions can be a powerful tool to support families in building their understanding of early intervention systems, fostering partnerships with team members, and strengthening their capacity to advocate for their child and family. This session highlights and honors families’ and professionals’ voices and features an approach to talking with families about their family rights in early intervention through watching and discussing videos. This session will share why the videos were developed, the collaborative development process, and how they can be used to strengthen families’ understanding of their rights and their advocacy skills.
