Symposia S5.03 Integrating Early Intervention and Early Inclusive Education Systems in Georgia: Experiences and Insights Symposium Organizer: Nino Tsintsadze (Georgia) Affiliation : Ilia State University Advancing Comprehensive Early Childhood Intervention
This symposium delves into the characteristics, experiences, and insights of Georgia's early intervention and inclusive education systems, highlighting perspectives from professionals and parents. The three presentations consolidate findings from four studies conducted between 2022 and 2023, offering a comprehensive analysis of systemic progress and ongoing challenges. The first presentation examines the evolution of Georgia's early childhood education (ECE) system over 15 years, addressing policy development, skill-building efforts, and innovative practices to tackle persistent barriers. Insights from a 2023 study reveal the strengths and weaknesses of the state’s ECE programs, drawing from feedback provided by parents and professionals. The second presentation synthesizes findings from two studies. The first investigates legislative advancements and systemic gaps in early inclusive education, emphasizing the need for improved coordination, robust monitoring, and enhanced professional training. The second study explores accessibility issues in early education, identifying that while services reach 74% of children, they remain resource-intensive and inflexible. The final presentation focuses on Georgian preschool educators’ views on inclusive education and their experiences supporting children with special needs. Qualitative interviews reveal challenges, such as the lack of resources, while offering insights into successful strategies, family engagement, and the critical role of supportive staff. Together, these findings provide actionable recommendations for enhancing early childhood education and inclusion in Georgia, fostering equitable opportunities for all children.
