Symposia Advancing Comprehensive Early Childhood Intervention S6.01 (Developing) Tools to Support Communication About Parental Beliefs and Information Needs in Early Intervention Symposium Organizer: Monique Flierman (The Netherlands) Affiliation : HU University of Applied Sciences, Utrecht, the Netherlands Early interventionists support parents of infants at risk for developmental delay. Development is influenced by medical and sociodemographic factors, such as prematurity or low socioeconomic status. Parental self-efficacy, knowledge of child development, and beliefs shape behaviors that impact child development, making parenting practices key targets for intervention. Understanding these parental beliefs and needs are fundamental to align interventions to family needs and to achieve true collaborations with parents. Developing tools to support these early parenting practices is promising, and including professionals and parents in the design process can increase their use and acceptability. Examples of tools will be presented, including barriers and facilitators for the development and the implementation. Within the Parental Beliefs about their Baby Lifestyle and Experience Study (PEBBLES) project, tools for pediatric physical therapists were created to assess parental beliefs and practices in families with children at risk aged 0-2 years. The toolbox “Conversation in Motion” fosters culturally sensitive, family-centered conversations on parental beliefs, practices, and social context. Preterm delivery and the subsequent hospitalization impact parents, who are not able to assume their parental role and need support to strengthen their role. Additionally, an app (eTOP) was developed for parents with a preterm infant, that addresses their unmet information needs after discharge. This app can be integrated in the evidence-based TOP-program. To optimize the eTOP app for parents with low health literacy, we actively involve this group to tailor the information to their needs.
