Symposia Advancing Comprehensive Early Childhood Intervention S6.02

Early Childhood Attention Program (ProAPI) Symposium Organizer: Francele de Abreu Carlan (Brazil) Affiliation : Federal University of Pelotas, Brazil

The Early Childhood Attention Program (ProApi), initiated by SECADI/MEC and developed by the Federal University of Pelotas, aligns with both national and international standards and addresses critical needs within the Brazilian context. This program underscores the importance of early intervention, targeting developmental processes in children aged zero to 6 years, whose brains are characterized by significant maturational and plasticity phases. These phases are crucial as they adapt and reorganize in response to the child's experiences. Given this context, to foster understanding of ProAPI - which follows an intersectoral, transdisciplinary, and inclusive perspective - significant investments have been made in teacher training through ongoing professional development. These training activities have been conducted both in-person and online, using the UFPel educational platform. Mediation practices involve a set of fundamental strategies, such as encouraging positive interactions between the child and their caregivers, which promote an adaptable and nurturing environment. In addition, the strengthening of families stands out, preparing them to play an active role in the development of their child. Therefore, ProAPI, as well as mediation, assumes a fundamental role in the establishment of networked education, where all parties connect in the same goal: a fair, egalitarian, and inclusive education.
