Advancing Comprehensive Early Childhood Intervention Symposia S6.03 The Power of Reflection: Attuned and Intentional in Early Intervention Symposium Organizer: Meg Bracco Liebreich (USA) Affiliation : The Early Intervention Training Program at the University of Illinois (EITP)

Cultivating a reflective practice helps to promote the EI professionals’ capacity to provide family-centered, culturally responsive services to children and families. When EI practitioners are provided a space to consider the thoughts, feelings, and challenges that arise, they can explore and reflect on ways to utilize strategies to support and nurture attuned, intentional, and affirming relationships with caregivers. We will provide information on an innovative professional development offering, “EI Collective: Attuned and Intentional,” which serves to strengthen the practice of early interventionists by fortifying supports, fostering team cohesion, mitigating stress and compassion fatigue, and providing space for contemplation and critical thinking. This guided process of discussion, exploration, and reflection allows EI practitioners to build awareness of themselves, their relationships, and their practices, honoring the strengths and vulnerabilities of themselves and those they serve. All sessions emphasize and highlight best practices from the Mission of EI, Division of Early Childhood (DEC), and EI Principles. Strong partnerships honoring the unique strengths, values, and cultural practices of every family are vital. Reflective practice groups are one way to empower practitioners to consider different perspectives and alternate possibilities to promote family engagement.
