Symposia Advancing Comprehensive Early Childhood Intervention S8.03 More Than Screening: Development of an Extended Version of the Ages & Stages The ASQ:Extended (ASQ:EX) is a newly developed measure that combines all items from the 21 age intervals of the Ages & Stages Questionnaires developmental screening tool into one continuous measure. ASQ:EX can be used by teachers and researchers to assess the development of young children for program planning and evaluation purposes. This session will share ASQ:EX development in 3 countries: Australia: The ASQ-Steps for Measuring Aboriginal Child Development (ASQ-STEPS) is a culturally modified derivative of the ASQ:EX for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in Australia. The unique context has necessitated adaptation to the design and administration to promote culturally safe practices. We will discuss the phased co-creation of the ASQ-STEPS, the findings at each phase, and the implications for development in this population. Netherlands: The ASQ:EX forms the basis of Development First!, an online adaptive developmental monitoring system in Dutch that provides standardized percentile scores based on Dutch population norms. Two types of shorter versions are being investigated: (1) a screening version that stops once a child scores > 10th percentile, (2) a Computerized Adaptive Testing version which provides percentile scores. US: Data is being collected via an online version of the ASQ:EX to establish standardized percentile ranks and examine item functioning. In addition, an activity-based version of the tool has been developed and piloted as an alternative administration method to improve the user experience by reducing the number of items responded to and to increase the accuracy of assumptions made for imputed responses.
