Advancing Comprehensive Early Childhood Intervention Symposia S8.04 Tele-Intervention to Promote Developmentally Supportive Caregiver-Child Interactions (DSI) in Different Populations: Facilitators, Barriers, Strategies and Tools Symposium Organizer: Rosa Vilaseca (Spain) Affiliation : University of Barcelona This symposium presents the results of different experimental studies to evaluate the effectiveness of teleintervention to improve developmentally supportive interaction (DSI) in families with children with emerging signs of autism or in children who have a sibling with autism, in relation to children's communication and socio- emotional development in caregivers’ emotional distress and self-efficacy. DSIs are crucial for the development of all infants and toddlers, especially for those with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Teleintervention, using programs such as Zoom to meet with families with young children, has increased opportunities for effective coaching to guide caregivers in supporting the development of their children, even in a risky environment. However, multiple barriers can interfere with effective coaching in teleinterventions. Several strategies and tools can overcome these barriers. These tools ensure that the focus of the teleintervention visit remains on building the capacity of the caregiver to effectively promote child development in their natural contexts.
