Symposia Advancing Comprehensive Early Childhood Intervention S9.01 Delivery Methods of Practice-Based Coaching to Broaden Coaching Opportunities Symposium Organizer: Ragan McLeod (USA) Affiliation : University of Alabama Coaching is becoming a widespread professional development support for early childhood educators (Schacter et al., 2024). Most often, coaching is delivered by an expert to an individual or teaching team (Shannon et al., in prep). Challenges with implementing coaching in programs, including lack of time and resources, may lead to limited access to coaching in this format (Lang et al., 2024; Schachner et al., 2024). Alternative coaching delivery methods may effectively support practice implementation for more coachees. Two delivery formats that may be less resource-intensive than individualized, expert coaching are reciprocal peer coaching and group coaching. Reciprocal peer coaching occurs when coachees implementing practices at similar levels of comfort or fidelity provide coaching to one another to increase the implementation of effective practices. Group coaching incorporates elements of peer and self-coaching and includes a systematic focus on the use of a specific set of effective practices in a group setting. Both models include implementing coaching strategies with fidelity by engaging in action planning, observation, and feedback, unlike professional learning communities (PLC) or communities of practice (COP). In this symposium, authors will provide descriptions of each delivery method as well as current research on the implementation and effectiveness in supporting coachee use of effective practices. Additionally, authors will share data from recent studies utilizing these models including outcomes, fidelity to the model, engagement, and social validity data across a diverse group of early educators and settings (e.g., Head Start, private preschool, preservice).
