Budding engineers work in small groups to identify and construct beam, arch, and suspension bridges using the supplies in this kit. Position 2 chairs, desks, or tables 30" to 34" apart. Students use a balsa wood set and steel plate to create the structures, then test the strength of each by suspending beanbags from the structure. More advanced lessons also show students how tension, compression, and force are dispersed across bridges and how it impacts their structural integrity.
