2014 Walking Club Wrap Up
by Jamie Wilcox
WOW! WHAT A YEAR!! Before we get down to the details of the year let me give you a little background on the charity we chose this year. We decided to donate our funds to Home of Hope Cancer Wellness Center in Dixon. Home of Hope is a not- for-profit organization that offers support, wellness, educational and other services at no cost for can- cer patients, survivors and their caregivers. If you are from the area and know someone that has been affected by cancer this is a wonderful place to spend some time. To learn more on the services they offer or if you would like to volunteer, visit their website homeofhopeonline.com or call 815- 288-4673.

So this year, we had a little over 110 total participates. They attended 7 events from May to October. For every participant for an event Crest paid the registration fee then put $20 into a fund. Our largest number of participants was for the Ashton Community walk, where we had 70 people attend. If you do the math that event alone was $1400 donated to Home of Hope! This year we also added a little incentive, if a Crest team won a corporate challenge at any of the events Crest would donate an extra $1000 dollars. This year we won 2 corporate challenges. The first was the June 28th, Kick Butt Run in Oregon and the 2nd was the August 23rd, Amboy Depot Days Dash. So after 7 events and winning 2 corporate challenges, we invited Joan Padilla, executive director of Home of Hope, to Crest to present her with her check. Our total came up to $8,360.00! Thank you to everyone that participated in the walking club this year. Without you and your dedication to getting up early on those Saturday mornings, I know it was rough sometimes, this definitely would not have been possible! At the end of the year to see the appreciation and hear it in Joan’s voice when we presented her with her check makes it all worth it and is just a reminder of why Crest makes these wonderful programs! Remember… It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop. See you next year!
Pictures to the right are from our last event this year. It was a very cold morning!
