A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 8
Last Friday, a group of 10 students from our Eco Committee attended the annual School Eco Conference at Holy Cross School in New Malden. The day had a packed schedule of speakers, presenters, student activities and games. This was a chance for our students to learn about environmental issues in a fun and interactive way as well as being an opportunity to have their voices heard about their ideas for ways to mitigate further damage to the environment. As my first official week as the Head of Year I am proud to say that it has been an enjoyable one. It was highlighted with the organised chaos of the Year 8 Bake Off. I must say the levels of panic and joy were in a constant see-saw as it was brilliant to watch the eight forms compete in Waldegrave’s most coveted event. From my viewing, I could see the standards were very high. With little understanding of baking myself I was impressed with the students’ knowledge of methods, ingredients and the science of baking. I was quickly reminded by some of the students that a chiller is certainly not the same as a fridge. The creations were done with great enthusiasm and the fun that the students had was clear to all. In first place we had 8PWA (Gaia, Hala and Abby), an amazing pumpkin spice cake that impressed all the judges. In second place we had 8EMU (Lilly, Jiya and Deniz), a very flavoursome chocolate and vanilla oreo cake. In third position 8EFR (Daphne, Olivia and Catriona) were able to present a very appealing orange spice cake. Thank you to all the students that participated in the event. An enormous thank you to Mrs Ahmed, the House Captains and Sixth formers that were helping with the event. Mrs Ahmed dedicates a significant amount of time to these events so we say thank you, her efforts do not go unnoticed. A big congratulations to Zahra from 8EFR for her amazing performance in her club Kick Boxing Tournament. She was able to finish with the gold medal from the competition. Our staff are always interested to hear about student successes in clubs, programs or extra curricular activities; please pass them onto the school. Looking forward, we are building towards Christmas and have a number of events coming up. Next week there will be House Assemblies as we celebrate some of the achievements from the houses. I know that Seacole are very much looking forward to their title defence this year. We also have the build up towards the staff panto, rumours have it that the performance will display a range of debutants!
