power of God. If we are His children by faith in Christ Jesus, we have .a loving Father’s protection. It is He who has said: “ Fear thou not; for I am with thee: . . . I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness” (Isa. 41:10). In addi tion to God’s love for us, another factor in freedom from fear is our love for our Father. Love Him unreservedly, commit ting all you have and are to God’s will, asking Him to shed abroad in your heart the love of God by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. Meditate on His great love toward us in that “while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Stand on that great fact: “ If God be for lis, who can be against us?” (Rom. 8:31). It is then that you will know the great joy of realizing this truth: “ Perfect love casteth out fear.” It is hard for those o f Christian upbring ing to realize the psychological misery of heathendom. An aged Korean woman was asked: “What benefits have you received from faith in Jesus?” “Many,” was the reply. “ I will tell you o f one, though you may not think it im portant as I do. Before I was a Christian, I never slept through the night without starting up and lying awake sweating for fear lest the evil spirits were bringing some disaster on our family or property. Now,.- when the sun sets, I commit my family and possessions all to God, lie down, and sleep clear through till morning.”— S elected . II. T r u stin g a F ath e r ’ s W isdom A father was holding his little blind daughter on his knee. Just then a friend came in, and, picking her up, walked off with her down the garden. The little one expressed neither surprise nor fear, and her father said, “Aren’t you afraid, dar ling?” “ No,” she said. “ But you don’t know who has got you.” “ No,” was the prompt reply, “but you d o , Father.”—G. A ccepting t h e C u p It is often given as a wonderful proof o f confidence in a friend that once when the great Grecian emperor, Alexander, was ill, it was told to him in a letter that his physician intended to give him poison in the form of medicine. The emperor put the note under his pillow. The phy sician came, poured put the potion, and gave it to him. The emperor looked his friend full in the face, drank the contents o f the goblet, then handed him the letter. It was a beautiful trust. Like confidence we are to have in the will of Christ for us.
