APR IL 1 The Master’s Touch “He. touched her hand, and the fever left her" (Matt. 8:15). When my eyes are blind to the things of truth, When the rub of the wprkl and its ways pollute, When my brow is fevered, my witness mute, Oh, I long for the touch of the Master! He touched the leper and made him whole; I have felt His touch on my sin-siek soul; He touched the blind so that they could . see, And the same dear touch gave light to me. He touched a mother; the fever went— His touch new life and service meant; Mid the fiery trials of this des,ert land, Oh, how sweet is the touch of the Master’s hand! ^MHE dith L. H e n n e s sa y . We have here a lesson of the greatest importance, namely this, that when alone in the inner chamber we must send up our petitions trusting Implicitly in the love of God and in the power|.pf the Lord Jesus. Take time to ask yourself the question: Is my heart full o f a great and steadfast faith in God’s love? . . . It is a mistake to limit the word “ faith” to the forgiveness of sins and to our acceptance as children o f God. Faith includes far more. We must have faith in all that God is willing to do fo r us. Our faith must reach out afresh each day according to the need of the day. — A ndrew M u r r a y . APR IL 3 God Is with Us " Speak . . . that they go forward” (Ex. 14:15). Go forward—God is with ms ;,’; He is our. defense from our enemies. He went back behind that great host o f Israel and went between them and their enemies. He was their defense . . . He could spread a table for them in the wilderness, and He could say to that flinty rock, “Give forth thy waters,” and the river o f living water would trickle down or rush forth, assuag ing the.thirst of multitudes o f people. So to you and to me today comes this glorious message—go forward, without fear . . . Go in the strength of God. Go in His power. Go in the line of His will that He has marked out for you, and His pres ence will be constantly with you. — G eorge W . G ibb . ■ APR IL 2 Praying in Faith “ Only believe" (Mk. 5 :36).

Some time ago, I was talking on the street with a very learned theological pro fessor. H e was in his older ao- and had been sick, and I, expressed my sympathy for him. Then I said, “Have you praised God for your sickness ?” 1. “ Oh, no,” he answered. “Why should 1B M “Why,” I replied, "God has been pre paring you to go to heaven, and this was very kind of Him, was .it.not?»* And then I asked, “If you could remain perfectly well, be always full of vigor, and be able to go on .indefinitely with your work of teaching, would you ever want to go to heaven ?” My friend . . . finally gave me a rather feeble smile, and said, “I don’t know that I should.” And probably his answer is the one which most of us would have been inclined to make. How good o f God it is, therefore, to let. suffering come to us, so that we may be detached from earth and constrained to turn yearning eyes to ward heaven ! — H en ry W. F rost . APR IL 5 Answering the Sinner’s Sigh “I saw . . . the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up . . . Then said I, Woe is me! fo r I am undone; . . . Then flew one o f the seraphim unto me, having a live coal in his hand . . . And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips';., and thine iniquity is taken away” (Isa. 6:1, 5-7); This vision of the Lord was full of grace and of glory. The majesty o f the Most High was manifest in the uplifted and occupied throne, in the solemn chant ing of the seraphim, and by the earth quake which made .the very foundations of the thresholds tremble. The revelation of grace was as remarkable as that of glory. In answer to the prophet’s cry of need, one o f the singing seraphim bore to him from the altar a live coal, and his sin was expiated. It is a wonderful unveiling of truth concerning God. The center o f all adoring worship, He nevertheless hears the sigh of the sinner in his need, and the song of a seraph’s worship ceases in order that the sigh of the sinner may be an swered.—G. C am pbe ll M organ . APR IL 6 The Walk of Faith “My sheep hear my voice . . . and they follow me” (John 10:27). Faith’s business is to accept and act on the Word of God. His word of explicit guidance varies according to the circum stances and His purpose in them. His sheep know His voice—the word that is meant for them on any particular occa sion. Action that is of faith, on one occasion may, on another occasion, if it is just superficially copied, be of fear or of folly . . . There is no one answer to prob lems o f guidance. What matters is that, by waiting on Him, I find out what the Lord is calling me to do at this particular time. Then the road lies straight ahead and has no turning. .“Trust and obey.” H — China’s Millions.
