for the believer who has been brought to realize something of His preciousness. ' 1 — S elected . APR IL 29 Dwelling in God “I know . . . where thou dwellest ” (Rev. 2:13). “He that dwelleth in the secret place o f the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” No harm can ever befall the man who rests beneath that shadow, nor can his peace be broken, or his love grow cold so long as he thus lives within that “ secret place.” . . . . They who make the Lord the abode to which they continually resort know a rest and joy and peace that the world can never give. The one important question then for each one of us is “Where is it that I am dwelling—and is my Lord speaking to me in commendation or in tender warning when He says, ‘I know . . . where thou dwellest’ ?”•— Life o f Fdith. APR IL 30 Just A Little While “ What is this that he saith, A little while?” (John 16:18). Does the period of your trial seem un bearably long? O believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, get the heavenly viewpoint! In reality, it is a Very little time that the Lord allows you to suffer and to serve. Let us make the most of this God-given interim; tomorrow we may be with Christ. Just a little while to seek salvation, Just a little while to pass it on, Just a little while for earnest actio||||§ Then the Master’s precious words, “Well done.” Just a little while to meet temptation, Just a little while to overcome, Just a little while for tribulation, Then the new and everlasting song I — S elected . How many Christian workers there are whom you have to humor and handle carefully, because, if not, tfiey' are ready to take offense and drop the work and give up the task which they have under taken! We, for whom Jesus died, we who have been purchased with His own blood —we go and talk about “taking up” Chris tian work, and we take it up lightly, we take it up because somebody has asked us to do it, or because we feel we ought to do it, and people will think it “funny” if we do not. We take it up, and we put it down again, and forget that no work can really be done for God until it has gripped us and thrust us forth into the doing o f it. —J. R u ssell H ow d en . “ The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (Jas. 5 :16). Do you want a revival? God wants it more than you do..'Do you Want the con version o f a friend? So does. He I ...T h ere are no limits to be set to the service we may render through prayer. . . . On the wings. o f prayer, you may reach the utter most parts of the earth and bring about the changes you desire. Just as the Presi dent in his room in Washington may touch a button which will virtually start the wheels turning in a place as far away as San Diego, we may connect with the.power which is resident in boundless. If we would serve better; let us pray more. — F rederick L e n t . - , ‘‘Behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut i f ’ (Rev. 3:8). How strengthening it should be to the faith and encouraging to the hearts of missionaries in the thick o f the conflict at the front, and those who at home stand behind them in prayer, to observe the many instances of the blessed confirmation of God’s pledge to maintain, through what ever may come and right on to the end, an open door for the testimony of the gospel! And this Record o f the past may well fill us with confidence for the days ahead, be they many or few. Resting upon His sure and certain promise of an open door set before us which no power of man or devil can shut, we can go forward without a fear or doubt, but with perfect peace o f mind and heart. God hath spoken: it is enough. R obert H all G lover . APR IL 28 The Greatest of Three Pictures ‘‘ They are without fault before the throne o f God" (Rev. 14:5). A believer may see three pictures of himself in God’s Word—what he was, what he is, and what he shall be. As to hisi former condition, he reads in Enhe- sians 2:12: “ That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the com monwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no nope, and without God in the world.” As to his present position, he reads in 1 John 3:2: “Beloved, now are we the sons of God.” As to his future glory, he reads' in the same verse; “ It doth not yet appear what we shall be; but we know that. . . we shall be like him.” “Like him” I That is enough APR IL 26 Let Us Pray More APR IL 27 An Open Door
