VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR This award provides the opportunity for The Arc New York to honor and recognize a volunteer member who has shown continued dedication, exemplary service, and advocacy on behalf of individuals who have intellectual or other developmental disabilities.
She manages not only the responsibilities described here but also sets the tone and culture of the home and shapes the development of the direct support professionals that she manages. As stated by one of the people she supports, "Heather has motivated me to be more outgoing than I used to be."

Patrick exemplifies dedication and self- motivation through his proactive commitment to accessibility and support of those living in the home. Although not required to be on call, he voluntarily
on the Sullivan County Chapter Board for more than 17 years, and served as a Board
of Governor to the Chapter for more than 15 years. He is a dedicated and active Board Member, having served on numerous Committees, including the Finance Committee, the Unification and Oversight Committee during two Chapter mergers, and the Executive Committee. He always makes a point not to miss out on any of the Chapter’s fundraising or other agency events. He is steadfast in his support, no matter the event. Steve does not hesitate to share his knowledge and experience will fellow Board Members, and is not afraid to take a stand and fight for the benefit of the people we serve.

Patrick consistently supports his colleagues, maintains respectful communication with families, and always prioritizes time for the individuals under their care. His patient demeanor and ability to remain composed during challenging situations further exemplify his leadership. Everyone who knows Patrick just loves him.
