The Arc Erie County Goes Above & Beyond GOING OVER THE EDGE ARCHIVING HISTORY
The community of Buffalo continues to impress with its passion and support for meaningful causes! At the end of July, The Arc Erie County New York undertook a remarkable challenge for the second consecutive year, sending 44 fearless
rappelers down the side of Buffalo's tallest building, Seneca One Tower. The second annual Over The Edge event attracted participants from all walks of life, including local news reporters, professional athletes, and a mother- son duo. The rappelers ranged in age from 14 to 80, and many of had returned for a second year. Sponsored by Tops Markets, the event raised over $135,000 to support The Arc Erie County's latest initiative: Black Water Acres—an accessible farm and habilitative space currently under development in Alden, NY. In addition to raising awareness for this important cause, June 28 also featured several local landmarks illuminated in The Arc's signature orange hue, including the Peace Bridge and Niagara Falls, shining brightly into the evening. For those who missed out this year, there’s no need to worry! This event will return in June 2025. Click here to be the first to know when registration opens!
Many people have boxes of old photos they aren’t quite sure how to display, which sparked a great idea at The Arc Erie County. What better way to showcase the organization's mission than by creating a history wall that outlines national, state, and local events affecting the disability community? The reception area of the Administrative Office, located at 30 Wilson Road in Williamsville, now features a 10-foot historical timeline and a 9- foot photo collage highlighting The Arc Erie’s activities, individuals, and staff over the past 73 years. The timeline showcases significant achievements, including the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Olmstead decision. Additionally, it highlights key moments for the agency, such as the launch of various programs and services, the opening of new facilities, and several rebranding efforts. Visitors are encouraged to check it out during their next visit!
