Over the summer, Saundra Gumerove, AHRC Nassau Board President and past president of The Arc New York was a featured panelist on the Science Magazine webinar, “Standing out in the storm: Caregiving in rare disease.”
Caring for someone with a rare disease presents a unique set of challenges, often necessitating a comprehensive approach that encompasses medical, emotional, and practical needs. This webinar was designed to equip caregivers with essential knowledge and strategies to navigate the complexities of caregiving in the context of rare diseases, empowering them to offer effective support while prioritizing their own well-being. The panel featured a diverse group of caregivers, scientists, and policy experts who shared valuable insights and practical advice drawn from both research and personal experiences. Saundra M. Gumerove, Esq., has been a trusted legal advisor for over 30 years, supporting Long Islanders with developmental disabilities and their families. As a mother of an adult daughter with disabilities and the board president of AHRC Nassau, Saundra is a passionate parent advocate.
