On the encounter of hotels and art
Fattal Art Collection curator, Iris Barak: ״Many hotels have tried to brand themselves with works of art on the walls of the rooms or in the lobby, but the Fattal chain has succeeded in creating a real and uncompromising connection between the work and the space״.
of contemporary art. The collection was carefully and gradually built by Barak, with an eye to relevance to the location of the various hotels, rendering the art collection as a complementary reflection of the chain’s growth. The collection’s uniqueness lays in the acquisition of the works and the establishment of an uncompromising art presentation standard that includes a curatorial dialogue, an art catalog and the selection of artists at the beginning of their career, alongside well-known and established artists, active in the local contemporary art field in each region. Thus, the Fattal Hotels Chain art collection is able to grow organically from the recognition of the artistic voices in the field of contemporary art around the world, with a commitment to Israeli art. Fattal’s art collection is found throughout Israel in the chain’s hotels: Herods Tel Aviv, Leonardo Boutique Jerusalem, NYX Herzliya and the Botanica Hotel Haifa. In addition, thanks to the ongoing collaboration between the Fattal Hotel Chain and the Dubi Shiff collection - one of the leading and largest private collections in Israel that focuses on figurative-realistic painting, selected works from the Shiff collection are displayed
Iris Barak is the curator of the Fattal Hotel Chain art collection in Israel and all over the world. This is one of the largest collections built over the last decade, dedicated to original local work. ״For the most part, hotels are equipped with works of art that have as much aesthetic and neutral value as possible, in order to suit the taste of every casual guest. So few hotels have managed to create an authentic connection between art and the hotel, where the art is mostly decorative and nothing else,״ says Barak. ״At Fattal, we realized that all over the world you can find a close connection between the world of art and the world of hotels. Many tourists are interested in getting to know not only the sea and the nightlife, but also the hotel where they are staying, which will allow them to be part of the local scene.״ Because of this, the Fattal hotel chain has acquired an extensive and diverse art collection in recent years. The works – which span various mediums, from sculpture, painting, photography and site-dependent installations - are purchased for the chain’s collection and displayed in the various hotels in the public areas, so that in addition to hotel guests, external visitors can also be exposed to selected works by artists active in the field
