Rhode Island High School Basketball Community Rallies Behind Victims of Impaired Driving

The January 9th boys basketball game between West Warwick and East Greenwich was dedicated in loving memory of Matthew Dennison and Olivia Passaretti. Olivia and Matthew were cherished members of the Avengers and Wizards sporting community. Besides their love of sports, they have something else in common: they were both killed at the age of 17 by an impaired driver.

North Kingstown High School senior Maddie Wilkinson, of the school's Youth Driven club, talks about the group's effort to bring awareness to the dangers of impaired driving during a half time presentation honoring Linda Sherman. Linda was killed by a suspected impaired driver in June of ‘24.

As part of MADD RI’s Victim Adoption Program, on January 27th the Youth Driven club at Pilgrim High School rallied the entire school community together at the boys varsity basketball game to honor the memory of Tori Lynn Andreozzi. Students showed their support by wearing blue (Tori’s favorite color) as well as having a moment of silence, and a half time presentation.
