“BENEATH THE CAPE” JADE HALL Senior e-studio arts major from Brooklyn, New York Crochet on canvas, 11” x 14”

Artist’s statement: On a trip to Cape Cod, I was inspired by how the ocean influenced every aspect of life in the town. I took a boat ride to see the whales, and though the whales didn’t make an appearance, the vastness of the ocean called out to me begging to be admired and asking me to look deeper into her and appreciate what lies beneath her surface. I took my hooks and my yarn and worked tirelessly on intricate shapes to show what lies “Beneath the Cape.”

It’s where I go to express, to explore, and to escape. From a young age, I found comfort in creating worlds and giving life to the characters that lived in them. Designing characters has become more than just a creative process for me; it’s a way to tell stories, to reflect emotion, and to connect with others on a deeper level. I hope that my work inspires others to pick up their tools and create without fear, especially fellow artists and dreamers. My experience with art has given me strength, clarity, and joy, and I would like to share it with others. Each character I create is a piece of that passion, a piece of me, and a quiet encouragement to anyone who needs it. Whether you’re an artist just starting or someone who simply loves to imagine, perhaps my work will inspire others to create their own creative journey.
