Zionsville PT: Is Your Balance Setting You up for an Injury?

Heart Wellness Event: We LOVE our Patients A SPECIAL OFFER

Tuesday, February 20, 2018

Because February is Heart Health Month, and Valentine’s Day falls in February, plus we really do care for our ZPT family and friends, it follows that we would want to extend a special offer just for you. First, let’s discuss the seriousness of cardiovascular (heart and blood vessels) health. According to the CDC, nearly 1 in 3 deaths in the US each year is caused by heart disease and stroke. At least 200,000 of these deaths could have been prevented through changes in health habits, such as stopping smoking, more physical activity, and less salt in the diet; community changes to create healthier living spaces, such as safe places to exercise and smoke-free areas; and managing high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes. When we see our patients here at ZPT we are often addressing pain, walking difficulties, joint stiffness or muscle weakness. We may not address the “elephant in the room” which could be … what have you done to stop smoking, to lose weight, to lower your blood pressure or cholesterol, or to push yourself to a higher fitness and activity level? We would like to do that NOW, this upcoming month of FEBRUARY. Just to give you plenty of time to prepare, we are setting aside Tuesday, February 20, 2018, for our Heart Wellness Event. SAVE THE DATE!

Here’s what we have planned….

Just for our past patients (all ages) and their immediate family and close friends, we will be performing Heart Wellness and Fitness Testing for you at NO CHARGE. Your 60 minute session will include: 1. Taking your blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, and blood oxygen level. (no needles, no blood, just external testing) 2. Testing your balance and general mobility, using standard tests such as Berg Balance Scale and Timed Up and Go. (see footnotes) 3. Cardio-specific testing such as the 6-Minute Walk Test or the Bruce Submaximal Treadmill Test. (see footnotes) 4. Functional Movement Screening – all or part of this test for assessing strength and flexibility. 5. Heart Healthy Snacks and Recipes to take home. 6. Information regarding Cardiovascular Risk Factors and Solutions, and Warning signs for Stroke and Heart Attack.

REQUIRED: registration by calling our office at 317.873.2033 OR e-mail us at ZionsvillePT@gmail.com so that we can contact you for an appointment slot. We will book these 30 minutes apart, but plan to be here for about an hour. We plan to start at 8 a.m. and finish by 6 p.m., so contact us right away to reserve your time! Footnotes: Berg Balance Scale is used to measure balance, using functional tasks such as sitting, standing, walking, turning, reaching and standing on one foot. T.U.G., or Timed Up and Go test is used to determine mobility and fall risk. It involves standing and walking a short distance then returning to sit. The 6 Minute Walk Test is used to determine functional walking capacity. How far can you walk in 6 minutes? The Bruce Submaximal Treadmill Test is used to predict VO2 max, or the efficiency of your cardiopulmonary systems by walking on a treadmill with increasing speed and grade for 12 minutes. This is best for some of our more competitive, athletic patients.
