Today the final A Level exam of the season was completed, with GCSEs finishing on Wednesday. The students have worked incredibly hard throughout the exams and can now enjoy celebrating a well deserved break from study. The sun has come out at just the right moment! This afternoon I am really looking forward to welcoming

our Year 13 students and families for our celebration assembly. As Year 13 leave, we are already in the process of welcoming our new intake for September. We had a very busy evening on Tuesday meeting our new Year 7 families. It was lovely to see many familiar faces in the audience, as well as meeting new members of the Waldegrave community. Katie and Hollie, Vice-Chairs of the Friends of Waldegrave and parents of students in Year 8, also introduced the vital work of our parent body. This weekend the Friends of Waldegrave are holding a Pre-Loved Uniform sale at school on Saturday from 10am. This is an opportunity to stock up on uniform at affordable prices. If you would like to support our work you can donate here, the funds raised make a huge difference to our students’ experiences. In the run up to the general election, we have some of our local candidates coming in to talk to our students. Last week Munira Wilson led a question and answer session with students, yesterday we welcomed Tom Bruce into school and next week it will be the turn of Jonathan Roger Hulley. I have been incredibly impressed by the insightful and thought provoking questions students have been asking in these discussions. Our A Level Politics students also had the opportunity to visit Parliament on Tuesday. Due to parliament being dissolved for the coming election students were able to access even more on the trip which really brought their studies to life.

In the news this week has been a worrying story about the impact of ‘Sextortion’ and other harmful online scams affecting young people. As the internet is an ever-changing phenomenon and young people are much more digitally engaged than their parents, carers and teachers, it can be challenging for us to know what the current and emerging risks are. The Internet Watch Foundation has an excellent blog detailing the types of harm that are common and how parents can help. They recommend the acronym TALK to parents as a structure: T alk about online sexual abuse A gree ground rules for how you use technology as a family L earn about the platforms and apps that your children love K now how to use the tools, settings and apps that can help keep your child safe online.
A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 7
On Tuesday, the parents of September’s Year 7 cohort came into Waldegrave, and as I showed a highlights reel of photographs, it struck me how much our Year 7 students have been involved in over the year. We are fortunate to have an extremely strong musical department at Waldegrave, and this week we had the pleasure of our school orchestra playing for us in our assembly. A closing performance of original material from a band made up entirely of Year 7 students showcased the talent that exists in our year group. If there are any Year 7 musicians who haven’t come forward, I encourage you to get involved with our musical extra-curricular groups. Congratulations to 7SHU, 7PIR, and 7EDA who have received the most house points this week. Keep up the good work! In sports news, our Year 7/8 rounders team recently took on St Richard Reynolds and achieved a fantastic victory, winning 12.5-6.5. Well done to all the players for their hard work and teamwork! On Saturday morning, we are holding a second-hand uniform sale at the school. This is a great opportunity to pick up some good-quality items at affordable prices. At the end of next week we have Sports Day to look forward to. The students at the moment have been hard at work putting together their team sheets. Wishing all the best for a successful day to Franklin, Pankhurst, Seacole and Eliot houses. Please continue to support us with uniform by ensuring that your child comes to school in the correct clothing and without makeup. Your cooperation in maintaining our high standards is greatly appreciated.

Murder Most Unladylike by Robin Stevens Murder Most Unladylike is about two girls - Daisy Wells and Hazel Wong - who attend Deepdean School for girls and create their own detective agency. They haven’t had any real crimes to solve, but suddenly Hazel finds their teacher, Miss Bell, dead. However when they return the body has disappeared. It’s up to them to solve this case and prove that it actually happened. If you have read books like A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder or Murder Mysteries, then you will enjoy reading this because it is thrilling and also slightly gory. Personally, I really like this book because it is very gripping and gets your brain thinking about who the murderer is. ~ Recommended by Ameera F-H, 7PUN
