ATA PD Coordinator Nancy Luyckfassel welcomed an energetic group of delegates to the Edmonton iteration of the Beginning Teachers’ Conference.

STRONG More than 600 of our newest colleagues came together this fall at Beginning Teachers’ Conferences for professional learning and networking. Open to teachers in their first two years of classroom teaching, the conferences were held in Edmonton from Sept. 26 to 27 and Calgary from Oct. 3 to 4.

LINDSAY YAKIMYSHYN Second-year teacher Brianna Bolt shared that she pursued teaching because working with students fills her cup—“It’s about inspiring students, their ‘a-ha’ moments.”

LINDSAY YAKIMYSHYN ATA president Jason Schilling delivered a powerful message to Alberta’s newest teachers: “You’ve joined the most important profession in the world, at the exact moment when your energy, your voice and your commitment are needed most.”

OLIVIA LECLAIR Teachers Ariana Blandizzi and Alyssa Demeria wore orange in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
