PT & Rehab: Life Doesn't Have to Be a Pain in the Neck

The Therapy Bulletin The Newsletter About Your Health And Caring For Your Body COMMUNITY WELLNESS HEALTH FAIR

The Community Wellness Health Fair, held on March 24 at the Coleman Family Center was a success! There were over 24 Vendors in attendance, including Physical Therapy & Rehab Specialists! Free services were offered, such as neck scans, blood sugar tests, blood pressure checks, Child ID Kits, and hearing assessments. Visitors received valuable information on a variety of health topics from the American Cancer Society, Child and Family Services, Physical Therapy & Rehab Specialists , Senior Services, and Sisel International just to name a few. In addition, Mid Michigan EMS offered CPR instruction, free health assessments, as well as vision screenings to adults and children. The Coleman Police even brought their new drug disposal station from Coleman City Hall, and MSU Extension had a very popular nutrition game with prizes for everyone.

The idea for a health fair began with a few community members interested in spreading valuable information on Diabetes. To that end several vendors had products specific to Diabetes help and prevention. We had three tables offering Diabetes information; one on nutrition and foot care, another on prevention and treatment, and one allowing visitors to ask questions of someone with Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes. The Health Fair was followed by a “Family Fun, Walk/Run”, where participants were given a free event t-shirt with a donation to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Over $300 was collected! Physical Therapy & Rehab Specialists were happy to be one of the many sponsors for this year’s event. The plan is to have an even bigger Health Fair in 2019! Keep a look out for ads promoting next year’s Health Fair later this winter. We hope to see you there!
