He always seems to end up playing the goalie. “Why I am not sure,” he said, smiling. He also likes to watch hockey on television, and admits he is a Senators’ fan. “But, as Santa grows older,”he said,“I’mmore inclined to just enjoy a good hockey game. Who wins is beginning to be secondary tome.” Before leaving, Santa stopped and thought a moment. “Christmas is always about peace and love,” he said,“and wishing happiness to everybody, and especially to the children in the hospitals, and the children who have special needs, and the poor, all over the world. Santa wishes that he could do much more. But then, you know, everybody should be an elf at this time of the year. Santa used to ride on horseback when he first began delivering gifts but his sleigh and flying reindeer have been his main means of transportation now for many years. He’s quite satisfied with the situation and sees no need to “upgrade” to something like a jet plane or even a rocket. “In the world of dreams, reindeer fly. When you have dreams and a child’s imagination, you don’t need a jet or anything like that. You would think that children would ask Santa to put rockets on his sleigh, but no. In their own world, it works so don’t touch, don’t fix it.” Around this time of year, the T.V. channels are full of special Christmas programming, including movies that feature Santa Claus as either the star or a main character. Santa’s favourite movie about himself is the original Miracle on 34 th Street. “There’s more magic in that film.” When he’s not at work or spending time with Mrs. Claus, Santa occupies himself with
