Where We Are Heading

The success of any smart city ini�a�ves would depend, to a great extent, on the preparedness and willingness of the popula�on. Public buy-in is important in any implementa�on programmes of the Malaysia Smart City

Framework. People must have the right mindset and a�tude in order to make a success of the smart city aspira�ons. Building smart communi�es is therefore a cri�cal agenda of the smart city.

As shown in the diagram below, the three key strategies in building smart community are transforming the way ci�zens interact through smart forms of educa�on and u�lisa�on of solu�ons in crea�ng an inclusive and accessible environment.

COMMUNICATION AND INTERACTION Ci�es need to transform the way they interact with the ci�zens through provision of informa�on and services and facilitate informa�on access through global pla�orms. Communica�on between the public and private sectors, as individuals or businesses is vital in forming smart community. Crea�ng social and digital inclusion/equality through educa�onal opportuni�es is an important prerequisite for a more efficient provision of informa�on and services based on new technologies. SMART EDUCATION Smart forms of educa�on are crucial to facilitate career choices, labour market opportuni�es, voca�onal training, entrepreneurship as well as lifelong learning for all age groups and demographics. Talent development is also an important aspect from an economic development perspec�ve as an increasingly important loca�on factor. ACCESSIBLE AND INCLUSIVE ENVIRONMENT Use of technologies and solu�ons supports the crea�on of an accessible and inclusive environment to increase prosperity and innova�on within a city or community. Par�cipa�on, open-mindedness, apprecia�on and respect towards culture and differences, moral and civil-minded and crea�vity are some aspects that are enabled or nurtured by implemen�ng intelligent solu�ons.
