IoT Technology in Malaysia Smart City Context

“The Malaysian Smart city vision is an innovative city that uses information and communications technology (ICT) to improve the quality of life, effectiveness of urban governance and services, and competitiveness, while ensuring that it meets the needs of present and future generations.”
Basedon theNetherlandMinistryof EconomicAffairs,Malaysia is currently placed at the level of emerging market for Smart City. At this stage, Malaysia faces rapid growth in urban popula�ondue tomunicipali�es upgrading their local authority governance from local council to municipal council and from municipal council to city council. Urban popula�on growth is not just about people moving to urban areas, but the changes made by the local government to their status of governance. This ac�on has resulted in the increase in the rate ofMalaysian urban popula�on growth without involving migra�on from rural to urban areas. Level of Smartness Cities in Asia Realising the importance of IoT, Malaysia introduced the Na�onal IoT Strategic Roadmap, which has jus�fied the need for the study of IoT technology readiness in Malaysia. This roadmap was unveiled to achieve three goals: to create a conducive the IoT industry ecosystem, to strengthen technopreneur capabili�es in Apps and Services layers and to transform Malaysia into a regional development hub for IoT. research communi�es. This means that IoT would support business companies, especially small and medium-sized businesses, in both performance and future growth. The Ministry of Science, Technology & Innova�on (MOSTI) introduced the Na�onal IoT Strategic Roadmap to implement the IoT in 2015. The mission is to create a na�onal network to empower the crea�on of IoT use & industrialisa�on as a new source of economic expansion.
