Malaysia’s Initiatives in Smart Mobility
As indicated in the diagram below, Malaysia’s ini�a�ves is to address the challenges of urban mobility cover a range of innova�ve digital solu�ons. Focusing on the need to reduce travel-related stress and carbon emissions, a range of advanced technological systems and interven�ons have been rolled out, incorpora�ng such moves as integrated mobility management and car-sharing. Involvement of the private sectors such as
Sena Traffic, JomParkir Sdn bhd, MyTraffic and Pixelbyte has contributed to the growth of smart mobility in Malaysia. Addi�onally, there have been moves towards promo�ng alterna�ve op�ons, encouraging non-motorised forms of travel.
(I) Malaysia Intelligent Road and Trac System Initiatives
Intelligent Transportation System Technology – Trac Management Centres • Introduced as part of the 11th Malaysia Plan (2016-2020). • To upgrade the country’s current transporta�on system, with big data analy�cs forming the core of the system • Se�ng up of smart traffic management centres (TMC) operated by various government agencies, such as Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA)
Smart Trac Management - Cyberjaya • Deploying IoT networks, digital analy�cs cameras and the establishment of a traffic management command centre • Adop�on of big data analy�cs, Ar�ficial Intelligence, crea�ve content, IoT, informa�on security, mobile internet, green
technology, cloud compu�ng, robo�cs and systems integra�on • Implemented of smart parking solu�ons with mobile applica�ons
Smart Integrated Mobility Management System (SIMMS) - Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) • Developed in partnership with the Bri�sh High Commission under UK’s ‘Prosperity Fund Global Future Ci�es Programme 2019 – 2022’ • Minimising conges�on and pollu�on by integra�ng and u�lising data for sustainable urban and transport planning • Sharing of data across different sectors and authori�es

Malaysia City Brain Project • A partnership between Malaysian Digital Economy Corpora�on (MDEC), Kuala Lumpur City Hall, and Alibaba • To op�mise traffic, parking and be�er manage energy via digitalisa�on and high technologies • Integrate technological measures, amalgama�ng 5G, IoT and AI in the future traffic network • Deployment of large-scale compu�ng engines tomanage traffic flowbe�er and to generate data around traffic volume and speed
Grab Data Sharing • Partnership of MDEC with Grab as a concerted effort to mi�gate traffic conges�on • Real-�me anonymised traffic data for popular Kuala Lumpur routes will be shared from Grab’s GPS data streams to Malaysia’s traffic management agencies and city planners
