Modern Policing Deploying Cloud Computing & Big Data
Taman Tun Dr Ismail, a township in Kuala Lumpur, was reported to be one of the first to adopt modern policing by the Royal Malaysia Police and significantly reduced crime by up to 40 per cent. Modern policing is aided by big data technology which can detect, deter and prevent crimes. Idenficaon of potenal criminal acvity can be carried out using the person-based predicve policing theory, with the technical support of big data.

Smart Public Housing
Rumah Iskandar Malaysia (RIM), a project by Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) and operated by Prisma Harta Sdn Bhd (PHSB) is an example of Smart Living for affordable housing, demonstrang the adopon of a range of smart infrastructures and technologies, such as rain harvesng and solar power. It also includes units with special features for the disabled such as wider doors and ramps. RIM incorporates the use of Crime Prevenon Through Design (CPTED) system, advocang the idea of safety by design.

Malaysian Health Data Warehouse
A comprehensive data-collecon tool providing a naonal healthcare informaon gathering and reporng system, covering all government and private healthcare facilies and services. MyHDW includes a paent treatment informaon system (SMRP) and paent registry informaon system (PRIS). The paent data collecon facilitates evidence-based decision-making, helping in the idenficaon of disease trends, thus enabling more targeted health acon plans.

MySejahtera App
MySejahtera app was developed to monitor the Covid-19 outbreak in the country and to also provide health guidelines as well as a COVID-19 hotspot tracker. It is also being used for the registraon of the Covid-19 vaccinaon programme. Deploying analycs and in-house logiscs and informaon system helps in the management of paent loads and expectaons. It also crucially, supports the management of hospital resources.

Smart Urban Farming
Sunway FutureX, a project launched by Sunway Innovaon Labs (iLabs) in 2020 is an urban farming project which aims to serve local communies and also to address the challenges around food supply chain, exacerbated today by the current pandemic. Penang launched its first self-sustaining community urban farming in September 2020, which could potenally feed up to 400 households in each harvest. Known as “Kebun Kita’’ the project is a collaboraon between Chief Minister Incorporated (CMI), Universi Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) and Think City. The farm is strategically located at the Penang Digital Library on about 2,000 sq. of land, inevitably strengthening community engagement as well propelling the drive towards using smart technology in farming. This smart and green community farming is aimed parcularly at providing food supplies to B40 households. The farm is part of Think City’s ‘‘Kita to Kita” (K2K) programme which ulises a digital plaorm to capture, analyse data and develop intervenons than can improve the quality of life and wellbeing of the B40 communies. The K2K programme is incorporated in the farm operaons to facilitate registraon, tracking and distribuon of produce to the targeted households in the B40 brackets.
In order to ensure healthy lifestyles and promote the well-being for all at all ages as enshrined in the UN Sustainable Development Goals, Malaysia has embraced digital technology as a means to create safe and healthy environments. From the perspecves of smart city, digitalisaon is connuously helping people to transform their lifestyles, supporng them to for example, be pro-acve
in generang their own well-being through iniaves like smart urban farming. New technologies bring smart soluons to crical urban problems, parcularly during these difficult mes of the Covid-19 pandemic. The challenge thus, is not only to fit in the best technologies but to encourage their adopon. Creang awareness connues to underpin Smart Living iniaves.
