THE PHILOSOPHY OF THE PRIVATE PRACTICE

I’ve been fortunate to run my own private practice. The whole concept of the private practice is based on a higher quality of care. A private practice means I can provide ideal treatment plans and give patients what they really need. There are many dental practices that are more “corporate” or belong to larger groups. Each practice must operate the same as the next. There often isn’t any room for creativity or a highly customized approach. It’s impersonal. Our practice thrives on personal interaction and going above and beyond. We can spend more time with patients one-on-one because we aren’t seeing as many patients as a typical dental office. It’s not about numbers; it’s about the experience. It’s the experience from the moment you walk in to the moment you walk out. In many ways, the experience starts before you set foot inside our dental spa. It starts when you make your appointment and continues with every interaction. Our staff is here for each patient, and every member of our staff plays an integral role every step of the process. I’ve told my staff that if a patient is left waiting, we are doing something wrong. Everything should be seamless. That’s a big part of my own philosophy. When you set an appointment, you expect that appointment to be kept at the time you set it. I believe that, so that’s the way we work. There is also something to be said about being a private practice in Beverly Hills. It’s a unique place to practice dentistry, including cosmetic dentistry. It’s a place where new styles come into play and where people take immense pride in their appearance — and that includes their smile. Between business meetings, social media, and living their best lives, they want to have their best smile to go along with it. What I personally appreciate about Beverly Hills and practicing cosmetic dentistry is that I can elevate dentistry to an art form. I can be on the cutting edge of dental technology and share that with my patients. Through

cosmetic dentistry, I can create something that didn’t previously exist — or hasn’t existed for a long time. It’s about achieving what the patient has imagined for themselves and translating an idea to reality. More than that, having a practice in Beverly Hills that not only caters to the people of Beverly Hills but also to patients around the world means I work with people who expect the best of the best. This forces you to become a perfectionist and to push yourself beyond what you thought possible. Looking back, my practice would not be as advanced as it is today if I was anywhere else in the world. I have been challenged in ways I never expected, and overcoming these challenges has made me the dentist I have become. I always knew I wanted to be on the cutting edge of dentistry, and I can say we are continuing to push even further to deliver world-class results.

A Look at the Power of Plants

Can a Vegan Diet

One of the pillars of holistic health is the idea that food is nature’s medicine. But while no one is arguing the fact that fruits and vegetables are good for you, there is plenty of debate about just how good they are. Can the right diet cure a cold? Counteract the flu? Prevent cancer? Many vegans, vegetarians, and other plant-based eaters say yes. The cancer question has been on the minds of an increasing number of researchers in the last 30 years. Because cancer afflicts roughly 38% of the U.S. population, it’s an urgent problem and an ever-fluctuating area of study. However, in the last decade, scientists have reached a tentative consensus on the impact of diet on cancer prevention, and it’s a feather in the cap of holistic health. First, let’s get this straight: Going vegan isn’t a surefire way to prevent cancer, and it certainly can’t cure it. But studies do show that sticking to a plant-based diet — and specifically cutting out meat — lowers your risk of cancer. According to Lindsey Wohlford, a dietitian with the MD Anderson Cancer Center, this is in part because plant-based foods contain phytochemicals, which boost the immune system. Plant-based foods are also a great

source of fiber, which lowers cholesterol, stabilizes blood sugar levels, and helps regulate the bowels. As she put it, “Meat just doesn’t do that.” A comprehensive study published by the National Center for Biotechnology Information notes that dietary factors are estimated to be responsible for 35% of all cancer cases, and that most studies have found vegetarian diets are “modestly cancer protective,” reducing risk by 10–12%. Studies also link red and processed meats to eight different cancer types and claim the risks meat poses are amplified when it’s fried, grilled, or barbecued. According to the studies, these processes form potentially carcinogenic compounds called heterocyclic amines. The American Institute of Cancer Research recommends a plant-based diet for cancer prevention but doesn’t ask Americans to ditch meat and dairy entirely. Instead, the website claims that as long as you stick to “moderate to small” amounts of animal-based foods, you can have your meat and decrease your cancer risk too.

Who Knows Teething Better Than Your Dentist?

TIPS TO EASE THIS PAINFUL PROCESS

Whether you’re a first-time parent or a seasoned veteran, you’re likely dreading a particularly difficult period during your baby’s first year: teething. According to eMedicineHealth, a branch of WebMD, teething can begin in infants as young as 2 months old, even though the first tooth usually doesn’t appear until about 6 months old. For most babies, the first tooth is one of the lower middle teeth, known as incisors. As the tooth penetrates the gums, the area may appear slightly red or swollen, and the process can cause a lot of discomfort for little ones and their parents. A number of home remedies have been passed down through generations, but who better to offer advice to worried parents than dentists? Here are three tips to keep in mind if your baby is starting the teething process.

is teething and experiencing more than just the above symptoms, you may need to take them to the doctor or dentist.

2. Use soothing remedies. To provide some relief, consider gently massaging your baby’s sore gums with a clean finger or soft cloth. You can also use cold, but not frozen, rubber teething rings. Since your baby’s gums are very sensitive, contact with frozen items might cause more pain. Be sure to keep a clean cloth nearby, as teething causes excessive drooling. Routinely clean your baby’s chin and neck to reduce irritation. 3. Schedule a visit. It’s common for parents to believe all of their child’s baby teeth should emerge before scheduling a dental appointment, but pediatric experts recommend babies have their first visit before their first birthday. Having a dentist monitor how your little one’s teeth come in will stave off future complications, alleviate potential fear of future appointments, and teach your child good dental hygiene at a young age.

1. Recognize symptoms. According to Edward Moody, the former president of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, look for signs like irritability accompanied by biting or chewing on hard objects, drooling, swelling and tenderness, refusing food, and disrupted sleep. If your baby

The Magic of Lumineers

Did you know you can achieve straighter and whiter teeth without braces or conventional whitening techniques — and with minimal impact to your existing teeth? It is possible! This is where Lumineers come in. Lumineers have quickly become a popular choice among people who desire straighter, whiter teeth. Not only are Lumineers a pain-free way to achieve amazing results, but they also achieve those results without damaging your existing teeth. In short, Lumineers are a more advanced type of veneer, which use newer techniques to produce amazing results. What sets Lumineers apart from traditional veneers? Veneers are thin shells often made of porcelain and bonded to the front of your teeth to enhance the beauty of your smile. In some cases, veneers can be used to correct many types of smile imperfections. These are imperfections that generally cannot be corrected by orthodontics. However, in order

for veneers to work, your existing teeth must be altered to make room. Specifically, our teeth may be ground down to accommodate the porcelain veneers. It can sound frightening, but it is painless, and the results speak for themselves. Lumineers, on the other hand, are considered “prep-less.” They require less work in order to achieve similar results. Lumineers are much thinner than porcelain veneers — in fact, they are so thin that they look nearly transparent and mimic the look of natural tooth enamel. While Lumineers are very convenient and can produce phenomenal results, they are not for every patient. breathtaking views that are sure to make this journey memorable.

For accommodations, opt for charming mountain huts to immerse yourself in the true Alpine experience. You can book them in advance to guarantee your bunk and a dinner of spaetzle or lasagna, depending on which country you’re in that night. Unless you’re traveling with an experienced mountaineer, a guide is recommended for touring Monte Rosa, even if you only plan to traverse a small section of the mountain. Weather can vary greatly and change quickly in this region, so you never know when you’ll encounter ice or snow, which can lower your visibility. Toward the top of the peak, you’ll even have an opportunity to cross a sprawling glacier, and having a guide will ensure you have the necessary equipment for a safe trip. On top of the spectacular views, you can expect a beautiful blend of cultures and an experience unlike any other on your tour of Monte Rosa. Plus, you may even get to see a few Swiss cows or mountain goats along the way!

An Alpine Excursion Tour Monte Rosa

Nestled between Italy and Switzerland, Monte Rosa is the second highest peak in the Alps, making it one of the best views in either country and one of the more physically demanding ascents in the mountain range. In the late summer and early fall, tourists and locals alike tour Monte Rosa to pay their respects to the peak and to be challenged by the cross-country trek over the mountain.

The full tour of the mountain is a nine-day journey that starts in Switzerland and crosses quickly over into Italy, winding its way through both countries before eventually returning trekkers to their starting point. The out-and- back path is the most popular route, though there are other ways to approach it. However you go, you’ll encounter massive glaciers, rigorous 1,000-meter ascents and descents, and
