Photoinduced ligand to metal charge transfer enabling cerium mediated decarboxylative alkylation of quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones Swati Singh, Neha Dagar, Sudipta Raha Roy 1 Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, India A mild and economical photocatalytic methodology for the decarboxylative alkylation of quinoxalin-2(1 H )-one and regioselective alkylation of quinolone utilizing an inexpensive cerium catalyst has been developed. This operationally simple protocol overcomes the limitation of the direct use of carboxylic acids to access alkyl radicals. Spectroscopic investigations reveal the photoinduced LMCT and CO 2 evolving events. We have utilized a broad range of alkyl carboxylic acids (primary to tertiary acids), amino acids, and pharmaceutically-important acids as couling partners to synthesize the desired alkylated heterocyclic product in good to excellent yields.
