Valent U.S.A. Sustainability Report

climate-smart markets; and incubate new projects and funding opportunities to help producers aligned with the ACAM mission. Access the Scaling Connected Ag White Paper to learn more. We work with CropLife America , the crop protection industry association, to utilize relevant SDGs and stakeholder input as a foundation to define key goals and outcomes that enhance farmer sustainability. SDG-2 is a focus SDG for CLA to advance innovative solutions that allow farmers to produce more food with fewer resources. Without them, farmers would need twice as much land to grow the same amount of food due to reduced yields. The American Soybean Association (ASA) advocates for U.S. soybean farmers on policy and trade issues. Valent partners with ASA to advance sustainability and ensure farmers have access to the tools and technology to farm sustainably, which includes reducing food waste. To shine a light on those farmers that have embraced innovative conservation practices, Valent is a major sponsor of ASA’s annual Conservation Legacy Awards which recognize farm management practices of U.S. soybean farmers who are both environmentally friendly and profitable. Valent collaborates in a similar fashion with other industry associations including the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) where we work to advance sustainable agriculture through investments in science education and corn production research at the university level.

SDG-2 Spotlight

Farmlink metrics to date ( April 2020 – present):

Being part of the ag industry, Valent knew firsthand the stress the pandemic was causing in the food chain. An internal poll revealed employees craved conducting a virtual food drive, and after some research, a partnership was established with the Farmlink Project. The campaign collected nearly $33,000 between July and August of 2020. This included the initial $10,000 contribution from Valent, plus employee donations matched up to $500 each. For every $100 raised, Farmlink can feed a family of four for a month.

Farmlink Project: Moving Food From Farms to Communities Valent and our employees provide both financial support and volunteer services in support of Food Banks where we live and work. Some of these include The Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano, Oregonians for Food and Shelter, and the Farmlink Project , a nonprofit organization fighting against food insecurity and food waste. A group of college students started Farmlink when COVID-19 closed their college campuses in March 2020. Once back home, they longed to do something to help the many people struggling during the pandemic — those who needed food and those who had food going to waste. The idea of Farmlink took root. They created an organization that connects farmers to food banks, delivering millions of pounds of farm fresh produce to feed families in need that would otherwise be wasted.
