retract.” •, She now testifies that she does not regret all she has suffered and praises the Lord continually for having sent His servant to her to give her the Gospel. The husband of this same woman, hav ing two hogs to sell, prayed, “O, Lord, Holy Father, you must sell those hogs for me because I cannot ” and sure enough that very day, a buyer came along and gave him $50 for his two hogs. “Now, there, that proves that there is a God that hears and answers prayer,” was his testimony. Besides our work in the railroad camps and farm houses, we now have three Bible classes among Christian believers which we hope will be a means of reaching the uncon verted in the respective communities. To God be all the praise and glory! on the foreign vessels, many of them among the Chinese and Japanese. Often these converts from heathenism show forth a warmness of soul and spirit which is so often lacking in the Christians in our own land. It was on a steamer carrying a mixed crew that we found a dear fellow, devoted apd happy in his work, telling the worker that he was reading the Bible, that he attended church whenever he was in a Chinese port, and that he would soon be a Christian. Questioning him, it was found that he really was a saved man, but that He thought (as did another man we met several months ago) that only after becom-. ing a full church member would he really be a Christian. The worker had the joy iof seeing him come into assurance of his salvation, and of showing him the differ ence between church membership and sal vation. He was,a dear fellow, the only Christian among sixty Chinese young men, all supplied with the Gospel.
Christ as his Saviour, and on a later visit testified to the blessing of joy and peace in believing- We are glad to say that our converts die 'happy in the Lord. An elderly man who was converted a year ago, recently died in the County Hospital, but before his death he testified, saying, “I am going to die but I have no fear. I feel so happy and con tented in the Lord,” and shortly thereafter he went to be with the Lord. One of the great encouragements to a Christian worker is to see the converts growing in grace. For instance one of ottr women converts was under a severe test- of suffering and in her agony said, “Lord, if Satan-is causing me this suffering to cause me to renounce Thee and return to' my old faith, I would rather die than P AUL, in Colossians, writes: “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sit- teth on the right hand of God. Set your affections on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.” He speaks to our hearts in these last days, seeking to draw us away from the snare of the world and from the “things” of “the earth,” through the many high- sounding phrases and slogans of the day. During the last month, and indeed through out the whole time which he has spent in the work of the Gospel, the worker has had occasion to find some “brethren” from among the heathen, where no “if” or ques tion could be raised as to , their having risen with Christ. The occasional meeting with a dear child of God (often in unex pected quarters) is always a source of great joy. A curious fact, brought home time and again, is that the great majority of witnessing Christians are to be found
