(5) You can be certain that you will always have with you the critics. (6) Here is the prophecy that the Gospel was to be preached throughout the whole world. (7) How dare you use the word “sacrifice” in service for such a Saviour? (8) Pillow your head upon His bosom for rest of soul; place your all at His feet for service. knuckles who was probably hired for this purpose. The Bishop succeeded in loca ting the man and he was arrested. At the trial the Bishop made a plea for the man, said he would forgive him and asked the judge to dismiss the case, if the man would go home and take care of his mother who was dependent upon him. Think of the hatred in professing Christian people that would persecute a follower of Christ who manifested such a forgiving spirit. Hating Christ breeds malice, envy, deceit, lying, murder, cruelty, slander, plotting, cheating, subtlety, anger, wrath and every thing that is hell-like and devilish. Love .—Breeds everything that is merci ful, kind, longsuffering, gentle, peaceful, happy, wholesome, noble and Godlike. Give each pupil in your class a piece of plain paper and ask them to write on one side what hatred does and on the other what love does, and then compare them. A little boy who thought he would do some accounting left a bill at his mother’s plate as follows : For bringing one pail of water, Sc; for running an errand, Sc; for going to store, Sc; for bringing in wood, Sc. Total, 20c. His mother was wise and did not say anything, but the next day Willie found the following bill at his plate: For patching trousers, 0c; for darning stockings, 0c; for covering ball, 0c; for washing clothes, Gc. T HIS lesson gives one a wide range of character study, as seen in the chief priests, scribes, Simon (the leper), Mary and some who had indignation. Hatred .—Hannah More said to Horace Walpole, “If I 'wanted to punish an enemy, it would be by fastening on him the trou ble of constantly hating somebody.” Lamaratine said, “Life is too short to spare an hour of it in the indulgence of this evil passion of hate.” “Hate belongs to sin. If we do a wrong, we hate either the thing or God, or ourselves, or somebody else,” said Dufiield. Plutarch said,' “Hatred is blind as well as love.” Pope said, “Offend her (hatred), and she knows not to forgive, Oblige her, and she’ll hate you while you live.” Someone has said, “Love is rarely a hypo crite, but hate—how detect and guard against it 1 It lurks where you least expect it, jt is created by causes that you can the least forsee; and civilization multiplies its varieties, whilst it favors its disguise.” Religious hatred is seen in leaders who put their organizations or denomination ahead of Christ. These in turn hate Christ and like Saul think they are doing God’s will in persecuting followers of Christ. An M. E. bishop in his study in Rome was struck down by a man with brass
