“MY GIRLS”
By Mrs. H. \ \ T HY do we decorate our churches * * with flowers on Easter and why do so many churches give flower seeds and potted plants to their children to plant and grow? Christianity is the only religion which bases its claims to acceptance upon the resurrection of its founder. Buddha didn’t rise. Mrs. Eddy has not risen. If Christ did not have power over death, He was not God but only an ordinary human being, as Buddha, Mrs. Eddy, and as are we all. That was exactly what the disciples concluded about Christ. They had hoped that it had been He which should redeem Israel (Luke 24:21). They had left all and followed Him, believing Him to be the Messiah. But He had ended in fail ure, disgrace and had died. Thinking themselves deceived, they returned to their homes, their nets; to their old life, humil iated and disgraced. Hope was gone, faith was shattered, but love led broken-hearted women to steal through the streets at dawn with their alabaster-box of spices. What difficulty did the women antici pate (v. 3) ? Observe that, like much of our trouble, if we go op “looking up” it never comes to pass. How like God it was to have the angel there to drive away the fears and answer the questions of these sincere seeking women. Observe what he said: “Jesus of,Nazar eth, which was crucified, He is risen.” False teachers, Millennial Dawnists, Chris tian Scientists and others, tell us that
J. Baldwin. Christ was only human until His resur rection, then He laid aside His humanity and became Divine. But the angel dis closed that this Jesus, whom some of them may have known from a boy at Nazareth, had been more than a mere human being. He was super-human, was God, and had proven that He was God by rising from the dead. The Christian girl should be glad of Christ’s resurrection for His resur rection guarantees hpr own resurrection; She will never die. She is also assured that she will have a body like His, a glori fied body. Either it will be raised or in a twinkling of an eye it will be changed into His likeness (1 John 3:2; 1 Cor. 15:52), This assures the Christian of a glorious future, but what for the present? Satan from our earliest existence tries to lure us into sin that he may destroy us. We stand absolutely helpless in our own strength to combat with Satan. But blessed be God, the living, resurrected Christ longs to live within us His own victorious life. He will conquer not only death but every difficulty which may be in our lives; The fact that Christ is doing this for scores of Christians is one of the proofs that He is alive. Just as a window reflects the sun and we know that it is somewhere shining, so let every Christian girl’s conduct be the outward expression of the inward fact that Christ is alive and living in her today. If any girls are not Christians appeal to them personally.
