paused in front of a store building. David was ready to say “yes” to God. And there, on a Hollywood street corner, David accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Messiah, and bowed his head in prayer. We shook hands warmly as we parted, later, rejoicing together that the angels in heaven were also rejoicing over a sinner who had repented. David’s new birth took place at mid night on Saturday. On Sunday, he was present at our Jewish testimony meet ing and publicly expressed thanks to God for his salvation. He was back at the Church of the Open Door in time for Christian Endeavor that evening, going alone to one of the groups to lis ten again to the Word of God. He just couldn’t get enough! M ISSION TO THE M IGRANTS, INC. taking the Gospel to America’s most neglected field. Filling the gap in the more needy areas among our migrant farm laborers. Our field, among Negro, Mexican and white American D.P.’s, and Mexican nationals deserves your consideration.

Christ, the safer we will be in the hour of temptation. Now take this other pen cil, placed along the side of the bolt, and break it without first removing it from the bolt, if you can. If you are to break the pencil, you must break the bolt also, and this is impossible. There is a truth here for you and me: Stay close to Christ, and it will be impossible for Satan to break and ruin your life. O bjects: A yardstick, a red card board cross one yard high, two pictures of men cut from a catalogue, a church letter, a baptismal certificate, a diction ary and a piece of paper on which is printed, “ GOD’S PERFECT STAND ARD.” Lesson: For what are yardsticks used? “To measure things and be sure they are right.” Did you know that God measures peo ple? We will lean this yardstick against the wall and thumbtack “ God’s Perfect Standard” above it. Now we will place these two men at the foot of the yard stick and see if they reach “ GOD’S PERFECT STANDARD.” They do not come anywhere near it. Oct. 12, 1952 How t o B e H a p p y

Oct. 5 1952 B e s t b y T e s t O bjects: Two pencils and an iron bolt about the size of the pencils. Lesson: John, see if you can break this pencil. “ Sure, that’s easy.” Yes, it was quite easy for you. It was easy for Satan in the Garden of Eden to tempt Eve and to win a great victory over the human family. Now, John, see if you can break this bolt. “ Of course not—who could?” If there were a flaw or a crack in it, it would be easy to finish breaking it. You never know how strong a piece of material is until it has been tested.

When Christ was tempted by the devil in the wilderness, there was not the least tendency in Christ to yield. Satan did everything within his power to get Christ to fall, but all that he could do was to test Christ and prove that Jesus was the Son of God with power over sin and temptation. Although Christ was tempted “ in all points . . . like as we are,” yet He was without sin. If He had been a mere man and not the Son of God, He could not have resisted the temptations of the devil. This is one way in which He was shown to be the supernatural Son of God. The temptation of Christ does more than declare Him to be the Son of God— it shows the Christian how to withstand temptation. Christ used God’s Word, the Bible, to answer Satan. We should do likewise. The nearer we keep to
