INSPIRING STORY
Soon after radiation treatment ended I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s and put on Thyroxine medication. Then I started moving through menopause at this point of time which just added to the problems. My friend and I started our endless search for answers, hitting a lot of brick walls. I went to doctors, psychologists, psychiatrists, a naturopath, an iridologist but nothing was helping, life felt like hell for me. In 2020 I had fleeting moments of normality, and in one of these moments I hopped on a plane to see my loved ones in Cairns, but my happiness didn’t last and the horror returned. Out of sheer desperation and needing to stop the suffering I attempted suicide, just as the pandemic was hitting. Somehow I survived, but I honestly don’t know how and my nightmare continued. I spent 3 to 4 weeks in a Cairns psychiatric ward where a plan was made to help get me off the Benzo.
I switched from Lorazepam to Valium the previous year to wean off, and I was put on the anti-psychotic Olanzapine, which helped for a few weeks but I was still in so much emotional and physical pain. My friend was able to fly in from Adelaide to collect me and bring back to Adelaide as I was simply not able to function for myself. Back in Adelaide I did more therapy and kept searching for different types of help and support, but I ended up back in another psychiatric ward for two months and this is where I spent Christmas.
