INSPIRING STORY
The psychiatrists and staff said they had never experienced anything like this. There was discussions about starting me on ECT (Electroconvulsive therapy), but for some reason I suddenly began to slightly improve. I was having patches of time throughout the day where I was not crying, wailing or feeling frozen. My Valium was discontinued and Olanzapine was replaced with another antipsychotic drug called Quetiapine. The anti-psychotics caused an
overall weight gain of more than 20 kilograms, and they also resulted in numerous disturbing side effects. I was in so much mental pain I constantly felt like I would literally self-combust. I was diagnosed with severe complex PTSD. After I was discharged from the psychiatric ward, I was still far from well, desperate for help and in a world of trouble. Withdrawing from these insidious drugs was deeply traumatic and took years of resilience to recover; at times I doubted I would make it.
So the search for healing began again. I received treatments from an holistic practitioner, who provided me substantial support. She was a close personal friend of mine who has been with me throughout my journey, providing substantial support, cheering me on and continues to do so. A gut doctor and an integrative doctor diagnosed me with Pyrrole disorder. I took supplements, eliminated many foods from my diet, and frequently rode my bike for hours on end, rain hail or shine.
