EXCELLENCE IN HEALTH & SAFETY AND WELLBEING WINNER: AG WILSON LTD

SOCIAL VALUE PROJECT OF THE YEAR WINNER: WOODVALE CONSTRUCTION, ENTERPRISE & INNOVATION DIGI-HUB, OMAGH Woodvale Construction’s clear and consistent commitment to reaching, and indeed exceeding, its social value targets for this project impressed judges. The contractor demonstrated its commitment across collaboration with local social enterprises, charities and educational institutions. Ten new entrant employment opportunities were created, with the beneficiaries of these opportunities afforded progression to further employment opportunities. Social value was embedded as an overarching strategy within the delivery of the Enterprise & Innovation Digi-Hub. Woodvale has also invested significantly in this aspect of its business overall, growing its social value team with tangible, strong social value outcomes.

Ongoing investment, and dedication to consistent improvement, by AG Wilson (AGW) across its health & safety (H&S) and staff wellbeing policies wowed the judging panel. Working in the high-risk area of civils and services installation, the company impressed with its efforts to minimise any risk across its workforce. Investment in digital communication tools, as well as plant, equipment and training, evidenced a strong culture of prioritising H&S and wellbeing among staff and subcontractors. AGW operates an ISO 45001 Health & Safety Management System accredited by UKAS and is an approved supplier to the utilities sector under Achilles Category B2 accreditation, reflecting its commitment to exemplary H&S standards across all operations. H&S and wellbeing are embedded in its culture, led from the top and woven into every layer of its business with the aim of creating a workplace where safety is paramount. Wellbeing is prioritised and every individual feels valued, supported and empowered. Company directors personally lead Safety, Health & Wellbeing Stand Down Days and are visible champions of mental health awareness, participating in Make it Visible site visits in partnership with the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity. Wider safety campaigns include annual participation in the CEF Safety Reboot, 2024/25 Responsible Driving Campaign and Fatal Five, delivered by Business in the Community NI and the PSNI.
