GENERAL CONSTRUCTION PROJECT
RESTORATION PROJECT OF THE YEAR WINNER: DEANE PUBLIC WORKS, CARNROE WEIR REHABILITATION, BALLYMONEY Setting a benchmark for future conservation projects, Deane Public Works has thoughtfully repaired and restored a Scheduled Monument dating back to the 1850s. Balancing heritage conservation with development of the site as an accessible recreational asset, judges were impressed by the contractor’s efforts to preserve the natural archaeological, architectural, engineering and industrial heritage of this inland waterway and its associated structures. Extensive environmental protection measures were implemented, including safeguards for fish migration and water quality. The project demonstrated exceptional strategic coordination in a challenging and sensitive natural environment. Traditional restoration techniques were used, as were recycled and locally-sourced materials, including partnership with a local stone masonry business.
COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION PROJECT WINNER: JH TURKINGTON & SONS, SENSATA TECHNOLOGY CENTRE, NEWTOWNABBEY Incorporating complex integrated service elements, Sensata Technology Centre functions as both an industrial environment and a pleasing work environment for its staff.
