GENERAL CONSTRUCTION PROJECT

GENERAL CONSTRUCTION PROJECT

SOCIAL/COMMUNITY BUILDINGS CONSTRUCTION PROJECT WINNER: WOODVALE CONSTRUCTION, ENTERPRISE & INNOVATION DIGI-HUB, OMAGH Boosting employment and commercial opportunities in Omagh while contributing to the regeneration of a neglected area, Woodvale Construction’s Enterprise & Innovation Digi-Hub is a deserving winner. With the construction industry under pressure to reduce its carbon footprint, a key role can be played by altering and converting redundant buildings to create new modern facilities. This project is an excellent example of the creative reuse of existing structural elements with selective demolition and an extension to transform a derelict 1970s health centre into a modern vibrant hub. A complex project involved installation of a new steel-framed first floor on an existing in-situ concrete- frame ground floor, requiring careful attention to detail to achieve a high standard of finish.

SOCIAL/COMMUNITY PUBLIC REALM & LANDSCAPING PROJECT WINNER: FOX BUILDING & ENGINEERING, BANBRIDGE PUBLIC REALM Fox Contracts’ commitment to a high standard of works and careful planning to manage engagement with businesses and the public impressed judges. Banbridge Town Centre is a unique public space, traversed by The Cut and famed for its family-run shops, bakeries and coffee shops. The scheme sought to improve the attractiveness and useability of its public realm to boost the economy, attract tourism and facilitate public events. This large-scale project included extensive works to the main streets of the town centre and a major junction priority change. While works of this nature carry a risk of negative impact on local businesses and citizens as the works are under construction, Fox Contracts’ sensitive and successful programme was praised by the client.
