INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT
INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT
INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT OF THE YEAR, ABOVE £10M WINNER: FARRANS SACYR JV, BELFAST GRAND CENTRAL STATION Ireland’s largest integrated transport hub, offering capacity for up to 20 million customer journeys per year, Belfast Grand Central Station is an iconic addition to the Belfast cityscape. Judges recognised the project as a masterclass in modern infrastructure delivery, creating a collaborative blueprint for future schemes across Northern Ireland. It has set a new standard for community engagement, matched by an unprecedented level of team cohesion, with the contractor, designer and client all co-located to foster a truly unified approach. The project’s social and environmental achievements included 1,164 hours of community benefits and the innovative reuse of 98% recycled steel rebar (3,300 tonnes). By delivering 74 apprenticeships and over 5,500 student visits, the team has created a legacy for the next generation.
INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT OF THE YEAR, BELOW £10M HIGHLY COMMENDED: BSG, NI WATER’S CSO EVENT DURATION MONITORING Judges were impressed with BSG’s efficient execution of this innovative project installing monitors across NI Water’s network to capture data and develop a more efficient wastewater infrastructure. Closely collaborating with NI Water and Project Manager McAdam, and proactively managing the supply chain, BSG delivered an excellent standard of work on time and to budget. The panel also commended the strategic and innovative nature of this project, with significant planning required at the project’s development stage to deliver the correct solution across more than 700 sites. By using a bespoke monitoring system and a network of local suppliers and materials, a comprehensive dataset on storm overflows was successfully captured. The resulting data provided a crucial baseline for rethinking the capacity of drainage areas, leading to more effective and efficient solutions.
