GB & ROI GENERAL CONSTRUCTION PROJECT GB & ROI INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT, BELOW £50M WINNER: THE SHARED WATERS ENHANCEMENT & LOUGHS LEGACY, LIFFORD Successfully completing a multi-agency, cross-border project, BSG has upgraded key wastewater assets and improved wastewater treatment within Carlingford Lough and Lough Foyle for more than 10,000 people. Judges were impressed by the early contractor involvement and its innovative approach to the design-and-build contract, leading to safe delivery of the project on time and to budget. Key to the success of the project, which has standardised water treatment standards on both sides of the border, were a collective team approach and proactive management of the supply chain. BSG collaborated with NI Water, Uisce Eireann, Project Manager Tobin Consulting, Designer Ryan Hanley, AFBI, Loughs Agency, East Border Region and South Donegal County Council to complete works at sites in Lifford, Killea, Carrigans and Omeath, improving water quality at Strabane and Warrenpoint.

APPRENTICE OF THE YEAR
WINNER: RACHEL TOHILL, FARRANS
Recognised by judges as a future construction sector leader, Rachel Tohill has demonstrated extensive experience and developed technical expertise since joining Farrans in 2021. She has worked across many major projects including Aster House and Alma Place in Belfast, Bottleworks in Cork and Belfast Grand Central Station, progressing from managing subcontractors and first and second fixes to setting out construction sites. An ambassador encouraging diversity in apprenticeships, Rachel has supported a Women in STEM careers open day featuring 60 female students from three schools and hosted a tour for work experience students at Belfast Grand Central Station. An active ICE member on a pathway to chartership, Rachel has been honoured with the UU Rising Star Award for Civil Engineering and supports the university’s apprenticeship fair, with her dissertation exploring fire protection in high-rise buildings post-Grenfell. Also representing Farrans at Women in Engineering events, she has completed CSCS, STS site supervision training, first aid, fire warden and guide dog training. David Bolton, Project Manager, Farrans Sacyr JV, Belfast Grand Central Station, said, “Rachel is conscientious, committed, hardworking and self-motivated, always fully dedicated to each and every task and role she is responsible for. Her work is consistently accurate and to a high standard.”
