NORTHERN REGIONAL COLLEGE BALLYMENA PROJECT PROFILE
FIRE DOORS Heron Fire Doors (HFD) supplied all internal fire-rated timber door sets for the new NRC Ballymena campus. Manufactured, factory-finished and pre-hung to the project specification, Heron Fire Doors supplied 470 FD30 and FD60 door sets in painted, veneered and laminate finishes incorporating vision panels, acoustic and threshold solutions and smoke control as required. Project challenges included logistics, with HFD coordinating staged deliveries to align with phase- by-phase completion, keeping the site clear for other trades. The manufacturer also managed late detail changes around ironmongery and vision panel sizes via its digital production routing and in-house CNC to keep lead times intact. HFD Project Engineer James Dunn served as a single point of contact between office and site teams, ensuring quick technical sign-off throughout the six-month contract. Supporting the client’s sustainability goals, HFD’s lean, low- carbon manufacturing is powered by renewables. Amy McCann, HFD Office Manager, said, “This fantastic project, working alongside our sister company Heron Bros. showcased the HFD expertise in the supply of fully tested and certified timber fire doorsets.”
ROLLER SHUTTERS, CANOPIES & SMOKE CURTAIN
Thirteen 95mm Magroll roller shutters complete with battery back-up and protective canopies, two commercial IBM roller shutters and one smoke curtain were supplied and installed by JB Door Systems Ltd. With careful scheduling, clear communication with main contractor Heron Bros and deployment of experienced installation teams, JB Door Systems ensured all works were completed to a high standard, safely and on time.
