ATL ENO AIRMAX COHORT PARTICIPANT Dawn Daniels Muhammad IT Manager, Sr. | Application Design + Development A current business challenge I am facing in my area of application development and design is what we term shadow IT. Shadow IT is any software, hardware or information technology (IT) resource used on an enterprise network without the IT department’s approval, knowledge or oversight. Our IT division has experienced increased pressure to innovate and deliver faster while maintaining high-quality standards. The Application Design and Development team frequently reacts to risks created by IT solutions (software, SaaS, etc.) that originate outside of the risk management process that the IT department created. These out-of-cycle engagements impact the team’s ability to maintain consistent service levels adding unexpected costs and delays to Aviation goals and outcomes. In short, out-of-cycle engagements that are caused by externally sourced software or hardware solutions (external to our IT team) inject delays to schedule, and increased costs to Aviation projects.
