College – Issue 40

they will provide inspiration to all. We now have 15 Old Boys’ posters on display around College. At the annual cocktail party, we unveiled six more Old Boys – Charles Upham, Teddy Tahu Rhodes, John Wright, Peter Penlington, Derek Banks and Robert Bell. Finance Thanks to the oversight of CCOBA treasurer Mac Bolderston (13962), we are running the finances well. Johnny Cochrane (10406) and his team at Jarden continue to provide sound investment advice and the investment fund is now over $3 million, with healthy returns even in these challenging times. Art Collection James Blackie (11684) is the curator of the growing CCOBA Art Collection, for which we acquire and gift works to College. Over the last five years, we have gifted some remarkable art pieces, including Atua #12 by College Head of Art Darryn George, and a rendition of Richard Bromley (RCB) by Old Boy and artist Toby Raine (12100). These pieces are on the walls of College for all to enjoy. This year’s piece, Red Black Feather by Neil Dawson, was selected by James and acquired from Old Boy Jonathan Smart (8823). It was unveiled at the 2021 annual cocktail party. Strict protocols in place for addressing abuse As you will be aware, the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse in Care is looking into what happened to children, young people and vulnerable adults in state and faith-based care in Aotearoa New Zealand between the years 1950–1999.

contact Board Chair Hugh Lindo via email – rc@christscollege.com – or telephone 03 364 6811. All discussions will be treated in the utmost confidence. The 175th Preparations have begun for our 175th anniversary celebrations in 2025, and we’d like to know more about the first 175 boys who attended Christ’s College. Just over 175 names are in the College List, up to and including 1862, and there are also those who attended College in Lyttelton. Please get in touch if you have any connection with these boys. The next few issues of The Quadrangle will include lists of those we’d like information about. CCOBA committee The CCOBA committee – Angus Dysart-Paul, Mac Bolderston (treasurer), Nick Harvey (vice president), Will Vink, Jono Blyth and Geoffrey Sullivan – has worked well together and we continue to build on the work done before us. I thank them for their support and for donating their time to the CCOBA. Former president Geoffrey Sullivan and last year’s vice president Nick Harvey, both stepped down from the committee after several years of service. They have served the CCOBA well and Geoffrey has been a great support to me during my time as vice president and president. Happily, Nick will still work closely with us on several initiatives which we have under way. We welcome to the committee Andrew Henderson (9710) and Nigel Taylor (7235), who were appointed at the AGM to replace Nick and Geoffrey. Angus Dysart- Paul is the newly elected Vice President.
